To say my life had been intresting would be putting it mildly. Actually, my life was perfect until a week ago when I started my senior year. You see I am a werewolf. Yes, a werewolf. I am the Alpha’s only child so to say I am a tad bit spoiled is correct. I am popular, the captain of the cheer squad and track team, I have a super-hot boyfriend that adores me…I mean what else could a girl want? My name is Alli, by the way, but enough with all this blubbering let me take you back to where my whole life changed.
One week before…
“Alli, are you ready yet? You’re going to be late for school!” my mom yelled.
“I’m coming! I just have to grab my jacket,” I replied about to make my break for the front door.
“Don’t forget to grab a muffin on your way out; you know what they say…breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” she reminded me.
“Uhhh…Mom, I’m not a baby anymore. I can take care of myself!” I replied pretending to be exasperated. “I know you can but moms always worry about their kids no matter how old they are!” she said smiling.
“Fine,” I said grabbing a banana nut muffin and walking out the door.
What could I say? Sure, my mom was a bit over protective but she loved me and I knew she only wanted the best for me. So I tried to keep her happy. If mom is happy, everyone is happy.
It was my first day of senior year; I couldn’t believe this day was finally here! My parents had surprised me with a purple BMW 320d, and I was super excited to show it off. Pulling into my parking space, I saw that most of my friends were already there.
“Alli! Wow! That car rocks!” Macy said jumping up and down.
Macy is my best friend; she has been my partner in crime since we were toddlers.
“Nice ride babe,” Nick said pulling me into a hug.
“Thanks,” I said wrapping my arms around his neck and kissing him softly.
“Hey, hey, hey no PDA…get a room!” Macy said smirking.
Nick has been my boyfriend for the last year. Being as he is the Beta’s son, it only makes sense that we got together. The only bad thing is that we aren’t mates. In case you are wondering, mates are your soul mates. The person that was made just for you. We can mate with other people but the connection will never be as strong. If you mate with someone that is not your mate, the bond with that person can only be broken by mating with your true mate. Nick had not found his mate and we have known each other since we were babies. His parents sent him away to boarding school when he was 10 and he just moved back last year. Ever since he has been back, things are how they were when we were kids. We became fast friends again and it progressed from there. I love him and I wasn’t sure what I would do if I found my mate. At this point, I was not even sure I still wanted to find my mate.
“Let me see what classes you have,” Nick said wrapping his arm around my waist.
“We have a few classes together,” I said grabbing his hand so he could walk with me to my class. As we walked to the classroom, I picked up the most intoxicating scent. “Do you smell that?” I asked.
“Smell what?” Nick replied frowning. “I guess it’s nothing,” I said kissing him.
“See you later and try not to miss me too much,” he said grinning.
“Come on,” Macy said pulling me in the classroom.
That is when IT happened. I stopped dead in my tracks. Before me was the most beautiful man I had ever laid eyes on. He was about 6′2 with jet-black hair and the greenest eyes I had ever seen. My breath caught in my throat, my heart was beating wildly, and I was about to have a panic attack! MATE. Omg I had found my mate! He turned, our eyes locked, and he had a shocked expression on his face. I saw love, sadness, and regret in his eyes. He ran his hand through his hair and that’s when I saw it. He was wearing a gold wedding band. My heart dropped and my eyes started to water. He is already mated to someone. Trying not to cause a scene, I grabbed Macy’s hand and pulled her to the back of the class.
“What’s wrong Alli?” Macy whispered in my ear.
“He’s my mate.” I stuttered out.
“Who?” she asked. “The teacher.” I said softly.
“Omg, omg, shouldn’t you be happy?” she said with a huge grin on her face.
“Macy look at his hand,” I answered dejectedly. “Oh, Alli I am so sorry!” she said hugging me.
I knew he had heard every word of our conversation. What was I going to do?
“Class, quiet down, I’m Mr. Eastman,” I absently instructed. My heart was beating so fast and my wolf was going crazy. My mate, I had found my mate! She was beautiful, 5′8, dark brown hair with fair skin and hazel eyes. I wanted nothing more than to pull her close and never let go. I know that she knew I was her mate. I also knew she had realized that I was married. The look of hurt and sadness I had seen in her eyes was almost too much for me to take, but there was nothing that I could do to ease that pain. I had chosen to take a woman who was not my true mate and now I would have to live with that. I sat in front of the class watching her. She never once looked up at me, she kept her eyes focused on her paper. I knew that we had to talk about this.
“Mr. Eastman” a girl in the front of the class said snapping me out of my thoughts.
“How old are you”? the red head asked batting her eyelashes.
“25,” I briskly replied.
“You single?” she quipped back.
“No I’m not,” I said frowning while looking at my mate.
She was frowning but she didn’t look up. Just look at me I thought. There was not a lot I could do right now, but I was going to have to get her alone. We had to talk even if she didn’t want to.
As soon as the bell rang, I grabbed my books and ran out of there with Macy right behind me.
“Alli are you okay?” a very concerned Macy asked.
“I’m fine, I just need to get away from him,” I said shaking.
I could only concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other when I literally ran into Nick in the hallway.
“Babe what’s wrong?” Nick asked pulling me to him.
“Nick can you take me home,” I practically whined.
“Are you feeling sick?” he asked searching my eyes for answers.
“Please, just take me home and I’ll explain everything,” I whispered trying to keep the tears from falling.
We pulled up to my house and I just couldn’t hold the tears back anymore.
“Alli you’re scaring me,” he said pulling me out of the car and carrying me inside. I wrapped my arms around his neck and let all the hurt that I was feeling out.
I carried Alli up to her room and sat on her bed with her in my arms, she was crying uncontrollably.
“What’s wrong baby?” I asked kissing her fore head. She looked up with tears in her eyes.
“I found my mate,” she whispered.
My heart dropped and I was nauseous, I didn’t know if I could survive losing her. I loved her. She had healed my heart when my mate had rejected me. I don’t think that I would have made it through all that without her. I never told Alli about her…she thinks that I haven’t found my mate yet.
I took a deep breath and looked up at her.
“Who is it?” I asked softly, not really wanting to know.
“It’s Mr. Eastman, he’s our history teacher,” she replied.
“Shouldn’t you be happy?” I asked ignoring the heartbreak I was feeling.
“Nick he’s married!” she said with tears running down her face.
“Alli, I’m so sorry what can I do to make it better?” I asked, honestly wanting to know.
“Just hold me,” she whispered.
I knew her heart was breaking. I also knew that I couldn’t do much for her but be here for her. I loved her and I was not letting her go without a fight. Her mate was with someone else and part of me was glad. She laid her head on my chest and cried until she fell asleep. I was thankful that she was finally sleeping peacefully. She cried all afternoon and every tear broke my heart. It was hard to watch her heart breaking knowing that there was not much I could do to ease her pain. I wrapped my arms around her and held her close and drifted off to sleep.
As soon as the bell rang, my mate ran out of my class. I walked out to see if I could catch up to her. I needed to explain. My heart stopped at what I saw and a soft growl left my lips. There was my mate wrapped around a tall blond boy. He was looking at her with so much love and adoration that my wolf wanted to kill him. She was holding on to him as if her life depended on it. The jealousy that went through me was like nothing I had ever felt. I wanted to yank her out of his arms and yell that she was mine. I was so close to shifting that I knew I had better get myself under control. I took deep breaths to try to gain control but I kept inhaling her scent and it was making me crazy. I was so hypocritical! How could I act this way when I was with someone else? I watched the boy lead her outside and I forced myself to walk back into my classroom.
